It is located at an altitude of 3 700 meters above sea level, Maras is located at a distance of 48.10 kilometers through the Cusco – Chinchero – Urubamba highway.
Las Salineras de Maras is an impressive salt exploitation complex, located in the landscape called Qoripujio, at a distance of 4 km from the city of Maras. It has salt mines, these mines were exploited since the Inca period as a form of exchange of economic value. From Maras you can visit the salt mines through a narrow path, here once you can meet mules that still carry the salt that is extracted from the natural salt mines.
Itinerary
Day 01: Cusco – Chinchero – Cruzpata – Urubamba
We will leave Cusco at 09:00 hrs and we will be transported to the town of Cruzpata (Maras) from where we will start to drive the bicycle and we will pass near the Laguna and Huaypo and the town of Mahuaypampa.
After a brief tour you will reach Moray where you can see a unique construction of several groups of terraces formed by concentric platforms that served to help preserve the ecosystem. Here you will have a guided tour and enjoy a lunch before continuing to the town of Maras and a spectacular descent from a trip to the salt mines, after which we will go to the city of Urubamba, where the return bus will be waiting to take you back to Cusco at approximately 5:00 p.m.
